The Axicon camera verifier software is used with the 15000 series of Axicon barcode verifiers, and includes plugins that can be used to check whether the verified barcodes meet the requirements of particular applications, or to change how the verifier determines the aperture size for 2D symbols.
In addition to the descriptions here, they are briefly explained in the software itself. To see these explanations, go to Settings and then choose Plugins. When you click on the name of a plugin a description will appear in the box on the right hand side of the window.
80% aperture
This sets the verifier to measure and grade the 2D symbol with an aperture that is 80% of the symbol’s X-dimension. This is in line with the international standard - ISO/IEC 15415 Information technology — Automatic identification and data capture techniques — Bar code symbol print quality test specification — Two dimensional symbols – when no particular application is specified.
For applications defined by GS1, with two exceptions, the aperture to be used relates to the smallest X-dimension that may be used in the application. For some applications this is 200μm or approximately 8/1000” (8 mils), and for others it is 500μm or approximately 20/1000” (20 mils).
The aperture to be used with 2D symbols in the Durable labelling and durable marking enabling long distance scanning application, summarised in Symbol Specification Table 13 of the GS1 General Specifications, specifies an 80% aperture. The aperture to be used for verifying some directly part marked symbols also varies with the X-dimension size.
When an aperture dimension is relatively small to the X-dimension, the verifier will be more affected by defects and voids, including those between disconnected dots in some printing techniques. When an aperture dimension is too large, defects will not be picked up and the modulation grade may be lowered.
In summary, If you are verifying 2D barcodes for an unknown application you might find it helpful to use the 80% option so that defects and other problems are not over reported and reduce the quality grade.
Brazilian healthcare
This ensures the barcode meets the requirements of Brazil’s National Drug Control system, ANVISA, in accordance with RDC-157-2017.
This checks that the barcode is a GS1 DataMatrix symbol, and that the data encoded includes a GTIN, Anvisa Medicine Registry Number, serial number, expiry date and batch number. The AIs must appear in the following order: 01, 713, 21, 17 and 10, and the data separator character must be used correctly.

CIP, Code Identifiant de Presentation.
This checks the barcode is a GS1 DataMatrix and meets the requirements of the French healthcare system in agreement with the Club Inter Pharmaceutique. This requires the GTIN to begin with the digits 3400, and for the batch/lot number and expiry date to be encoded: this means the AIs 01, 10 and 17 must appear in this order, with a data separator after AI 10.

Code 39 Check Character.
This checks that the final character is a Modulo 43 check character for the preceding data. Most Code 39s that have check digits use this calculation.

DAVA
This checks that the data in the 2D GS1 DataMatrix symbol meets the requirements of the Indian Drugs Authentication and Verification Application (DAVA) which specifies that pharmaceutical products should be identified with a GTIN, batch number, expiry date and serial number.
This is to comply with the Director General of Foreign Trade’s Public Notice 52/2015-2020 concerning export of pharmaceuticals and drug consignments.

GS1 Data Content
This checks that the data in any GS1 symbol complies with the rules set out in the GS1 General Specifications for the use of different Application Identifiers and their data.

GS1 Distribution
This checks that the symbol meets the requirements for trade items scanned in general distribution. These are chiefly outer cases of products. It uses as its basis Symbol Specification Table 2 of the GS1 General Specifications, version 22.

This checks that the symbol correctly encodes GS1 document type identifiers, individual asset and returnable asset identifiers, and GLNs (Global Location Numbers) and GLN Extension. This includes the following AIs: 253, 254, 8003, 8004, 410, 411, 412, 413, 414, 415, and 416

GS1 Global Service Relation Numbers
This checks that the GSRN is correctly encoded in any of the four possible symbols: GS1-128, GS1 DataMatrix, GS1 QR and GS1 DataBar Expanded. The AIs must be either 8017 or 8018.

This checks that the GTIN and other relevant data are correctly encoded in symbols intended to be scanned on trade items administered directly to a patient. It uses as its basis Symbol Specification Table 6 of the GS1 General Specifications, version 22.

This checks the symbol used on trade items scanned at retail points of sale in pharmacies and in pharmacy distribution. Most of these items will be outer cases of healthcare trade items. It uses as its basis Symbol Specification Table 8 of the GS1 General Specifications, version 22.

GS1 UPC Human Readable
This will display only the encoded data in a UPC-A symbol, and not decode it as a 13-digit number by adding an implied leading zero to the GTIN-12.
Decoding it as a 13-digit number is in accordance with section 5.2.2.3 UPC-A barcodes of the GS1 General Specifications, version 22, but some users find this confusing.

HIBC
This will check that a Health Industry Bar Code (HIBC ) symbol meets the criteria of the Health Industry Business Communications Council (HIBCC)) for product marking including Unique Device Identification (UDI). It has been developed using the Supplier Labeling Standard for Patient Safety & Unique Device Identification (UDI), version 2.6, 2016.

ITF Check Digit
This checks that the modulo 10 check digit character is correct. This must be present for ITF-14 symbols used by the GS1 system.

MIL-STD-130
This will check that a Data Matrix symbol meets the UII (unique item identifier) requirements of the USA’s Department of Defense’s standard for the identification marking of US military property. The standard is MIL-STD-130N with Change 1 of 2012.

Performance Qualification
This is only to be used when carrying out the PQ test component of the Axicon 15000 IQ/OQ/PQ test protocol. It sets the aperture to 200µm (Aperture reference 08) for the verification of the PQ test cards.

Pharma Pack
This will check that the GS1 DataMatrix symbol encodes at least the GTIN, batch number and expiry date, and measure the print quality with a 200μm aperture (Aperture reference 08). It checks for the AIs 01, 10 and 17; other AIs may also be present.

Portuguese Medicines
This checks that the GS1 DataMatrix symbol encodes at least the GTIN, batch number, serial number, expiry date and Portuguese national healthcare reimbursement number. The Portuguese NHRN must be 7-digits in length. It checks for the AIs 01, 10, 21, and 714.

Russian Dairy
This checks that the GS1 DataMatrix symbol encodes the GTIN, a six-character serial number and verification key for the product. The required AIs are 01, 21, and 93. AI 93 is used to encode a four‑character verification code specified by the Russian national trace and trace system, Chestny ZNAK.

Russian Pharmacy
This checks that the GS1 DataMatrix symbol encodes the GTIN, a 13-character serial number, verification key and verification code for pharmaceutical products. This is specified by Chestny ZNAK and the AIs 01, 21, 91 and 92 are needed to meet the requirements specified by Decree 1118 of 30 August 2019.

Turkish Healthcare
