The Axicon 15000 series verifiers have been designed to read both two-dimensional and linear barcodes. As from 2023 the software also includes the option to analyses captured images for direct part marking verification of Data Matrix and QR-Code symbols according to the ISO/IEC 29158 standard for checking the quality of those marks.

To activate the DPM feature you will need to go to the settings menu and then the advanced tab. On the right hand side you will see a tick box option to enable DPM mode. You will also see “Enable toolbar button” option as well. With this ticked it will make it more convenient to switch DPM mode on or off by just using the toolbar button.

Cropping

While scanning your direct part marked symbol it is preferable to crop the image so that only the matrix code and its quiet zones are within the cropping box. In particular when defining the crop, try to avoid any brighter background areas as this will reduce the level of the automatic image contrast boost. The examples below show how the image contrast is boosted more when the symbol is more tightly cropped
